The honda rc211v was developed in 2001 by the competition department of honda - hrc - to replace the honda nsr500; due to drastic changes in the rules of world motorcycling championship for the season [[2002]. the rules changed; limits for engines 500cc two-stroke and four-cylinder remained; but four-stroke engines were allowed to reach 990 cc three to four cylinders. this change paa class renamed motogp prototypes and limited to racing. this motorcycle was the first four-stroke motorcycle in the world championship speed.
